The Heathcote River Day Trust was formed to:

• Fundraise for, promoting, and managing the annual Ōpāwaho Heathcote River Day and Raft Race.
• Encourage the use of the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River and surrounding parks and reserves for recreational purposes.
• Provide a locally based event that local people can actively participate in.
• Raise public awareness of the local iwi’s historical and cultural connection with the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River and surrounding area.
• Help support local charitable and community groups.
